This is the first Arnaldur Indridason book I read and, I think, the first one with Erlendur as its main character. Jar City gave me a feel for a country I've never really considered beyond volcanic activity, hot springs and icy conditions. Oh yes, and strange epic poetry. I learned that names are a bit odd in Iceland. So not sure whether Indridason is his first or second name. This was explained at the beginning of the book but it was a bit like physics lessons at school - I understood the meaning of the words but couldn't quite put them together to make sense. The story begins in Reykjavik and it should be no surprise that the city has all the problems associated with large urban areas.
